Newborn (0–12 weeks)

14–17 hours/day · 3–4 naps · wake windows 45–90 min · flexible bedtime.

Newborns have no circadian rhythm yet. Feed every 2–3 hours. Expose to daylight during the day, keep nights dark and boring. Don’t obsess over schedule — focus on watching sleep cues. See our newborn bedtime calculator.

3–6 months

12–15 hours · 3 naps · wake windows 1.5–2.5 hr · bedtime 7–8 PM.

Predictable nap pattern emerges. Many babies can sleep 5–8 hours at night by 4 months. Sample: wake 7 AM, nap 9 AM, nap 12 PM, nap 3 PM, bedtime 7 PM.

6–12 months

12–14 hours · 2 naps · wake windows 2–3.5 hr · bedtime 6:30–7:30 PM.

Most drop to 2 naps around 9 months. Sample: wake 7 AM, nap 9:30 AM, nap 1:30 PM, bedtime 7 PM.

12–24 months

11–14 hours · 1–2 naps · wake windows 3–5 hr · bedtime 7–8 PM.

Transition to 1 nap usually 13–18 months. Sample: wake 7 AM, nap 12:30 PM (1.5–2 hr), bedtime 7:30 PM.
